while digging a drain in some sugar-cane field, and while in a state of profuse perspiration, he became thirsty and drank about 10 ounces of cold water. Immediately after drinking he felt a sensation of dryness and pricking in the throat, after which the symptoms increased gradually during the day, and prevented him working, eating, and drinking; he felt besides a difficulty in breathing and speaking.
